Google has quietly rolled out a fresh design update for the Gemini app, bringing a cleaner look and small usability tweaks. The biggest change is the new open-box style prompt bar, which now gives users a little more space to type queries.
Gemini App’s New Prompt Bar
Earlier, Gemini’s prompt bar appeared as a rectangular box with full borders. After the update, it now looks like a box with only a top lid, while the sides and bottom are missing. This simple change makes the bar look lighter and allows more characters to fit in a single line.
The new design was first spotted by 9to5Google and is already rolling out on Android. An iOS update is expected soon.
Gemini App: Tools Menu Gets Redesigned
Alongside the new prompt bar, Google has also redesigned the tools icon. Previously, it appeared as a “+” button, which opened all available features such as image generation, video generation (for paid users), Deep Research, and Canvas. Now, Gemini highlights your most-used tool separately in a chip-style button, while the rest of the features are tucked inside an ellipsis (three-dot) menu.
Gemini App: Disclaimer Placement Changed
Another noticeable tweak is the repositioning of the “Gemini can make mistakes, so double-check it” disclaimer. Earlier, it sat right below the prompt bar after every response. With the redesign, the disclaimer has been moved, making the typing area feel less cluttered.
Why It Matters
These design updates may seem minor, but they improve usability by making better use of screen space and giving users quicker access to tools. The cleaner open-box style prompt bar also brings Gemini’s UI closer in line with other Google apps that use rounded, minimalist design elements.
